  5뤌12일(금)~14일(일), 부처님 오신 날 행사가 태화강둔치에서 열려 다녀왔습니다.

12일 개회식에는 울산 근교의 사찰과 해외 불교국에서 온 불자와 스님들이 대거 참여를 해 부처님 오신 날을 봉축했습니다.

  부처님 오신 날을 봉축하기 위해 태화교와 태화강변으로  약10만개의 오색찬란한 연등이 켜져 도심을 수놓았습니다.

*연등의 의미 – 석가모니부처님의 탄신일(음력 4월 8일)을 축하하고, 연꽃모양 등燈에 불을 밝혀 무지와 번뇌로 가득찬 속세를 부처님의 자비로 밝혀 주는 것

-상단불공 – 10시

-정근기도 – 14시

-점등식 및 회향 법회 – 19시

 필자는 점등식 및 회향 법회에 참여를 했습니다.

밤이 되자 연등이 강물속에도 비춰져 마치 연꽃이 핀 것 처럼 연출되었습니다. 

물속의 연등을 들여다보고 있을 때 사람들의 환호성이 들려 고개를 돌려보니 연등행렬이  줄지어 들어오고 있었습니다.

필자도 연등행렬속으로 자리를 옮겨 축제를 즐겼습니다.

연등행렬은 여러 사찰에서 준비한 다양한 모양의 연등으로 로봇, 공작새, 봉황, 연꽃, 코끼리, 탑, 부처님상……

연등을 실은 자동차가 들어올때 마다 불자들은 합장을 올리고, 연거푸 사진을 찍었습니다. 

모든 연등이 의미가 있었지만 연등중에서 가장 인기가 좋았던 연등은 단연코 공작새였습니다.

보고 있으면 금방이라도 날아갈 것처럼 느껴져 눈을 뗄 수가 없었습니다.

화려한 공작새의 날개짓은 연등행사를 압도했습니다.

 또한 불교국가에서 온 외국인들이 자국의 전통의상을 입고 연등행사에 참여해 눈길을 끌기도 했습니다.

사람들은 연등을 찍어 SNS에 올리기 바빴고, 필자도 사진을 수십장 찍었습니다.

 그밖에도 3일에 걸쳐 봉축 제등 행렬, 연등 탑돌이, 축하공연 및  불꽃놀이, 부처님 이운행렬, 부처님 찬탄 게송 대회, 발우공양 체험 등 다양한 프로그램이 있었습니다.

체험부스에서는 불교용품, 천연염색 등 다양한 체험을 할 수 있었으나 필자가 도착했을 때는 문을 닫은 상태여서 아쉽게도 체험을 하지 못했습니다.

 점등식 및 개회식이 끝나고 불꽃놀이가 시작되었습니다.

불꽃놀이는 제법 긴 시간 동안 이어졌고, 불꽃이 하늘을 향해 쏘아 오르자 구경꾼들의 함성도 덩달아 울려퍼졌습니다.

이번이 마지막 불꽃이겠거니 하고 숨죽여 보고 있으면 거짓말처럼 또 불꽃이 솟아 오르고…..그렇게 불꽃은 계속 이어졌습니다.

태화강둔치에 있던 구경꾼들은 말할 것도 없고, 지나가던 차들도, 주위의 아파트에서도 불꽃을 사진으로 찍어 지인분들한테 보내느라 정신이 없었습니다.

불꽃놀이는 우뢰와 같은 폭음을 내 시선을 집중시켜 놓고 하늘에다 불꽃을 만들어 온 세상을 밝히고는 금방 사라져 버리는 것이기에 지켜보거나 사진으로 남기지 않으면 다시는 

그 장면을 볼 수 없다는 것 때문에 매력적이지 않나 생각합니다.

 불꽃놀이 행사가 끝나고 주위를 둘러보았습니다.

그 넓은 행사장에는 쓰레기가 하나도 없었습니다.

해마다 태화강둔치에서 불교 행사를 하지만 다른 행사와는 사뭇 다르다는 걸 느낍니다.

행사 시작과 행사 종료때까지 쓰레기는 찾아볼 수 없었고, 버리는 사람도 없지만 주최측에서  그만큼 철저하게 관리를 했다는 말이기도 합니다.

 쓰레기 없는 ‘부처님 오신 날’ 행사를 치른 불교연합회에 진심으로 감사를 드립니다. 

부처님의 자비가 온누리에 함께 하기를…..합장
