9월의 어느 날, 남구에 위치한 김 어르신의 집에서 새까만 연기가 퍼져 나갔다.

화재가 더 커지기 직전 신속하게 출동한 119 소방대원에 의해 다행히 큰 피해는 발생하지 않았고, 응급실로 이송된 김 어르신 또한 건강에 별다른 문제가 없었다.

재작년, 김 어르신은 주변의 권유로 울산광역시 남구에서 시행 중인 ‘독거노인‧장애인 응급안전안심서비스’를 신청했다. 그렇게 설치된 장비가 일 년이 지나 그렇게 큰 일을 할지는 그때는 알지 못했다.
울산광역시 남구에서 시행 중인 ‘독거노인‧장애인 응급안전안심서비스’ 대상 조건에 해당하는 독거노인 및 장애인의 가정에 화재감지기, 응급호출기를 비롯해 5가지의 장비들이 설치된다. 화재나 본인의 질병 등으로 응급상황이 발생하면 119와 지역센터의 도움으로 신속하게 상황에 대처할 수 있어 1인 가구가 증가하고 있는 지금 그 중요성이 점차 강조되고 있는 사업이다.
울산 남구 관내 독거어르신이라면 일정 조건에 부합하는 경우 누구든지 신청할 수 있다. 장애인활동지원을 받는 장애인 가구 또한 일정 조건에 부합한다면 신청할 수 있다.
