5월의 울산…핫 플레이스는 장생포!
– 5월 11일 ~ 14일 울산고래축제 열려 –

울산 남구의 5월 전국 어느 곳보다 뜨겁게 달아오른다. 전국에 하나 밖에 없는 2023 울산고래축제가 ‘도약하는 장생포’를 주제로 5월 11일부터 14일까지 4일간 장생포 고래문화특구 일원에서 열리기 때문이다.
울산 사람들이라면 누구나 고래축제를 보기 위해 한 번 쯤은 장생포를 방문했을 것이다. 그러나, 오래 전 방문했던 사람들은 몇 해 전에 가봤는데 가지 않아도 되겠다는 생각을 하시는 분들도 있다,
그러나, 축제라는 것이 큰 틀에서는 같겠지만 세부적으로 살펴보면 볼거리와 먹거리, 즐길거리 등 다양한 콘텐츠로 매년 변화를 시도하며 방문객들에게 해마다 다른 즐거움을 제공하기 위해 노력하고 있다는 것을 알게 될 것이다.
올해 역시 새로운 체험을 할 수 있는 프로그램이 추가되고, 먹거리 존도 등장했다. 장생포 전경을 한눈에 담을 수 있는 고래열기구가 첫 선을 보이게 된다. 또, 서민들의 먹거리인 핫도그와 회오리 감자, 떡복이 등을 판매하는 장생포차가 새로이 추가됐다.
그리고, 이전의 고래축제와 크게 달리진 점은 축제를 즐기면서 장생포문화창고에서 잠시 휴식을 취하며 마시는 차 한 잔의 여유와 각종 전시와 공연을 관람할 수 있는 프로그램이 다양해 졌다. 특히, 올해는 울산 지역 최초로 어린이 상설공연을 시작돼 온 가족이 함께 즐길 수 있게 됐다.
어린이 상설공연으로 ‘개굴개굴 고래고래’, ‘상상력극장 삼양동화’ 등이 11월까지 이어진다. 그리고, MZ세대를 겨냥한 이색 공연 프로그램인 ‘인디 in 장생포’를 열어 다양한 연령대의 관람객들이 문화를 접할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고 있다.
이처럼 축제는 명성만으로 그 명맥을 유지하기 어렵다. 한 곳에 머무르기 보다는 새로운 변화를 시도하며 다양한 콘텐츠를 제공하는 것이야 말로 축제를 더욱 빛나게 해 줄 것이라 생각한다.
울산고래축제는 다양한 계층의 방문객들에게 보다 신선한 즐거움과 변화하는 콘텐츠로 한 걸음씩 나아가고 있다.
해마다 고래축제를 방문해서 달라진 콘텐츠를 즐겨보는 재미도 솔솔할 것이다. 새로운 변화와 다양한 콘텐츠로 색다른 재미와 추억을 선사해 줄 올해 축제를 다시 한 번 즐겨 본다.
